Demonstrate

Demonstrate publically, or in small personal ways, that you support affordable housing.

• Support and encourage the construction of a variety of types of homes in your neighborhood.
• Be a “Yes! In My Backyard” Person. If affordable housing is proposed in your neighborhood, step up and say, “YES I support this!” Find out who is making the decision (like your city council or neighborhood association) and attend a planning meeting to let community leaders know that you want affordable housing in your community. Or better yet, join your neighborhood association or run for city council.
• Participate in The International Day of Prayer and Action for Human Habitat, observed on the third Sunday in September (September 19, 2010). This is a time when the entire Habitat for Humanity community is urged to come together in prayer for those in need of shelter.
